As a Cub Scout, you want to follow the rules and wear your uniform with pride. Knowing the correct placement of the various patches and insignia is an essential part of putting on the uniform. This guide will explain the placement of all of patches and insignia on the Cub Scout uniform.
Clothing
Let’s start with the clothing itself. You should wear a uniform shirt and trousers that match your rank and age. The uniform shirt should be tucked into the trousers, with the belt at the proper level. When wearing shorts, a belt should also be worn. The shirt should be buttoned to the top button, and the cap should be worn properly.
Rank Insignia
The rank insignia should be placed on the left front, centered, and facing out. The rank insignia is earned as part of the Cub Scout program and should always be worn on the front of the shirt, on the pocket flap, or on the left side of the collar. Rank insignia can also be worn on a sash, belt loop, or other placement.
Activity Badges
Activity badges are earned by completing specific activities and should be placed on the right side of the shirt pocket or on the right side of the trousers or shorts. These badges should be placed above the trouser pocket and centered on the pocket flap. Remember to wear only one activity badge at a time.
Awards and Recognition
Awards and recognition are earned by completing special activities and should be placed on the back panel of the uniform shirt. These symbols and patches should be placed at the top of the back panel and centered. Awards and recognitions can also be placed on a sash, belt loop, or other placement.
Council Patches
Council patches are earned from the local Boy Scouts of America chapter and should be placed on the right sleeve of the uniform shirt, centered between the shoulder seam and elbow. The patch should be facing out.
Flag Patches and Shoulder Loops
Flag patches and shoulder loops should be placed on the left sleeve of the uniform shirt. The flag patch should be placed above the elbow, with the top of the patch facing up. The shoulder loop should be placed below the elbow, with the bottom of the loop facing down.
Service Stars
Service stars are earned for length of service as a Cub Scout and should be placed on the BSA shoulder loops, centered between the shoulder seam and elbow. The service stars should be facing out.
Following this guidance on patch placement will help to ensure that you look your best when wearing your Cub Scout uniform. Take the time to get it right and show your pride in your organization.
