Collections Merit Badge (WORKSHEET & REQUIREMENTS)

The Collections Merit Badge is one of the most popular merit badges among Boy Scouts. Earning the badge requires Scouts to learn about the history and importance of collecting. This badge also teaches Scouts the value of collecting, conserving, and recognizing the heritage of our past. It provides an opportunity for Scouts to see how collecting can provide enjoyment and benefit the community.

To earn the Collections Merit Badge, Scouts must complete several requirements. Here is a brief overview of the requirements for the badge:

  • Describe the importance of collecting. Explain how collecting can help preserve our history.
  • Name three collections that have educational value. Explain how they can be educational.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to care for items in a collection.
  • Identify five pieces that you collect or would like to collect.
  • Create a display of your collection and explain why you chose to display it the way you did.

The Collections Merit Badge gives Scouts an opportunity to explore collecting and its importance. It is a great badge for Scouts to earn for their interest in the past and for their knowledge of caring for collections.

To help Scouts complete the requirements, the Boy Scouts of America has created a Collections Merit Badge Worksheet. This worksheet includes step-by-step instructions and an outline of the requirements. Please be sure to review the worksheet thoroughly and complete all of the requirements before earning the badge.

Happy Collecting!
