Leatherwork Merit Badge (WORKSHEET & REQUIREMENTS)


The Leatherwork Merit Badge allows Boy Scouts an opportunity to learn about leatherworking while also gaining valuable experience in the craft. Earning the Leatherwork Merit Badge will help Scouts gain the knowledge to create many types of leather items, such as wallets, bags, and more.

Leatherwork Merit Badge Worksheet

To earn the Leatherwork Merit Badge, Scouts must complete all activities in the worksheet provided. This worksheet covers all the requirements of the badge, including information on the following topics:

  • Overview of Leatherwork
  • Skills of Leatherworking
  • Tools of Leatherworking
  • Finishing a Leather Project

Leatherwork Merit Badge Requirements

In addition to completing the Leatherwork Merit Badge worksheet, the Scout must also complete the following requirements to officially earn the Leatherwork Merit Badge:

  • Prepare at least five different pieces of leather from a single hide, using a knife.
  • Research and discuss the care and preservation of leather.
  • Identify the different types of leather and their uses.
  • Design and make a leather item of your choice.
  • Identify at least three leatherworking tools and explain their uses.
