For Scouts wishing to earn the Insect Study Merit Badge, there are a few requirements that must be completed. The following is an overview of the worksheet and requirements needed to complete the badge.

Worksheet

The Insect Study Merit Badge worksheet is a requirement for earning the badge. The worksheet includes different tasks and activities such as collecting and mounting fifteen different species of insects, making a scrapbook of twenty different species of insects, and labeling each one with its common and scientific names where possible. The worksheet also includes instructions on how to make observations and record them on the worksheet.

Requirements

In order to earn the Insect Study Merit Badge, Scouts must complete the following requirements:

  • Collect and mount fifteen (15) different species. Label each one with common and scientific names where possible.
  • Make a scrapbook of the twenty (20) insects you observe in Requirement 5a. Include photographs, sketches, illustrations, and articles. Label each insect with its common and scientific names where possible.
  • Write a report on the overall project.

In addition to these requirements, Scouts must also complete several worksheets, attend a merit badge class, and receive a signature from a merit badge counselor.
