American Cultures Merit Badge (WORKSHEET & REQUIREMENTS)

The American Cultures Merit Badge is designed to teach Scouts about the different American cultures that exist in the United States. It requires Scouts to learn about diverse cultures, learn and recognize stereotypes, and take part in events and activities that help bridge the cultural divide.

Worksheet & Requirements

The following worksheet and requirements are needed to earn the American Cultures Merit Badge:

  • Culture Exploration: Scout must explore two or more different American cultures. For each culture, the Scout must learn about the history, language, customs, food, music, art, and other aspects of the culture.
  • Stereotypes: Scout must research and identify two stereotypes related to each culture studied. Based on their research, the Scout must explain why the stereotypes exist and how they affect people and their perception of culture.
  • Event or Activity: Scout must attend or take part in an event or activity related to a different American culture. While attending or doing the activity, the Scout must write a one-page paper discussing their experience and how it helped to bridge the cultural divide.
  • Leadership & Service: Scout must demonstrate leadership or service related to American cultures. This may include organizing an event or activity related to the cultures studied, volunteering in a culturally diverse community, or leading a discussion or presentation on American cultures.

Once a Scout has completed the worksheet and requirements for the American Cultures Merit Badge, they can submit their work to their Scoutmaster for review. Scouts who successfully complete the requirements will receive the American Cultures Merit Badge and join their peers in earning this important badge of honor.
