Earning the merit badge is a great way to demonstrate your hard work and expertise in painting. To do so, you’ll need to fulfill a series of requirements which demonstrate your skills in the craft. Here’s a worksheet and the items you’ll need to complete to earn the painting merit badge.
Painting Merit Badge Requirements
- Complete a project that involves a painting medium of your choice (e.g., paint, chalk pastels, acrylics, etc.).
- Demonstrate knowledge of the following:
- Coloring, tinting and shading techniques
- Basic principles of design
- Visual Arts vocabulary
- Discuss the history of painting and its development as a fine art.
- Describe the techniques used by a range of different painters.
- Create and present an original painting.
Painting Merit Badge Worksheet
- Create a painting project. (Remember to choose a painting medium of your choice!)
- Document your painting project on your worksheet. Label each step of your project (e.g., sketching, painting, outlining, etc.).
- Write a paragraph that explains how your chosen painting medium was used in your project.
- Write a paragraph that describes the coloring, tinting and shading techniques used in your painting project.
- Write a paragraph that details the principles of design you used in your project.
- Write a paragraph that explains the principles of visual arts vocabulary used in your project.
- Write a few paragraphs on the history of painting and its development as a fine art.
- Write a few paragraphs that explain the techniques used by a range of different painters.
- Complete your project and present your original painting.
Once you have completed all of these requirements, you’ll officially be an expert in painting! Take pride in the work you’ve completed and show off your painting merit badge with pride.
